About Images Of
In 2023 and 2024, the project will network Schleswig-Holstein initiatives, activists, organisations, NGOs, etc. with civil society groups and organisations from Latin America. We will identify partners who will engage in virtual exchange on common issues. In the summer of 2024, 25 people from Latin America and 25 people from the state of Schleswig-Holstein will take part in a summer school in Kiel to deepen their understanding of the topics they have worked on together.
The project contributes to changing fixed and discursively (through media, history, society, etc.) formed images about regions outside our familiar, Eurocentric environment. Our project goes far beyond the mere networking of activists. Participants will work on relevant global issues of our time, such as human rights and the constitution, agroecology and climate-just food, hunger or discrimination against minorities.
The project will focus on a different region of the global South every two years. In the end, at best, a large global network will have been created, which is sustainable in its exchange. The project is run by the Heinrich Böll Foundation Schleswig-Holstein e.V. and the Bündnis Eine Welt Schleswig-Holstein e.V., in close cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Self-image
Development cooperation often finds it difficult to escape colonial continuities. At the same time, the realities of life in the Global South are not very present in our everyday life in Schleswig-Holstein. With our project, we therefore want to take a path that starts with direct cooperation, so that barriers are reduced and thus multi-perspective views and a (self-)critical awareness of historical and current global conditions and privileges are conveyed.
In doing so, the Global Learning approach is to develop a perspective that puts learning from the Global South at the forefront. Getting to know and applying mutual approaches and perspectives in dealing with the respective socio-political challenges are important.
For the participants, the perspectives broaden in the context of their socio-political engagement. They gain new perspectives through a global exchange of information and global joint work processes. Power and skill sharing takes place, i.e. the sharing of power and knowledge, which strengthens the motivation for one's own (political) work and commitment.
